How to Write a Informative Essay – High School Students Can Write One

An informative essay is usually an academic composition, written at college or high school level, that aims to enlighten the intended audience about the specific topic, individual, event, or phenomena. The purpose is usually to answer the question in a clear and well- articulated way. These types of essays are more structured and professional in style than personal writings. Informative essays use scientific or mathematical language and concepts to discuss a particular topic. In contrast, personal writings typically express one’s own view about a given topic. Personal essays are more personal and tend to be written in a more casual and informal tone.

The first step to writing an informative essay, as in any type of academic writing, is research. The writer should conduct a thorough research on the topic of interest. He or she should gather as much information as possible from as many sources as he or she can find. The more information the author has about the subject, the better the quality of the essay.

The next step to writing an informative essay is writing the body. This consists of three parts: the introduction (the paragraph that introduces the subject of the piece and provides background information), the main body (which contains the body of the article and is the most significant part), and the conclusion (which summarises the information gathered in the body). The introduction and the conclusion are pre-requisites for the rest of the essay. The introduction starts the piece and sets the topic; the main body provides facts about the subject; and the conclusion summarises the important points.

To build your understanding about a particular topic you should investigate it from different perspectives. You can use your own personal experiences or you can use reliable sources from the internet or from your library. If you use your own personal experiences you must be honest in your piece. If you include unreliable information, you might unintentionally discourage others from considering a particular topic.

A very effective way to build your understanding about a particular topic is to include factual statements in your essay, accompanied by a background information. For example, if you are writing an essay about public transport systems you could mention some of the pros and cons of each system and then explain how and why you decided which one to use. Background information helps to prevent your readers from going away from the main topic because they found it too technical for them. Some examples of background information include statistics, government plans, environmental impact assessment reports etc. In addition, if you cannot include any facts in your piece, at least include a paragraph or two that gives an overview of the topic.

When writing an informative essay you should also try to keep it interesting. No matter what your audience is, it needs to read an interesting and well written piece. There are many different ways to achieve this. For example, you can use quotes, metaphors, adverbs and even action verbs such as I, you, me, we etc. Try to structure your sentences so that they make sense, sound natural and do not over use any words or phrases. If the tone of your piece is informal, it will probably sound a little more formal to your target audience.

To write an engaging and informative essay you must build your argument and then develop a strong hook. The hook is basically a summarizing point which draws your reader into your piece. For example, in public speaking, the most famous speeches include; “I think I could…” and “…I believe so because…” If you are writing a brief review on a recent technological advance you could briefly mention “A new generation of devices…” or “The advantages of using…” You should be able to develop a strong hook in your essay and it is important that you use it in all of your writing. The best hooks are the ones that are original, creative and make sense.

Another important aspect of a good informative essay example is to make sure that it is written in the first person. In other words, you want to tell a story. When writing, you can use personal experiences or you can use research from reputable sources. Whatever you use you want to make sure that it backs up your main point. As you continue to read essays written by well known writers you will find that some of their better works have huge amounts of information packed into very little space. This is the type of quality that will ensure you gain class points and impress your professors.
